Some people seem to think that wearing the hijab is disadvantageous to Muslim sportswomen. A comment received from none other than the biblioholic (Sharon Bakar):
- and thank goodness for azlina i say. why should malaysian sportswomen by disadvantaged by uncomfortable impractical clothes? women should decide for themselves how they dress!
What a load of…. The Islamoholic would like to demonstrate why this is so by pointing to the Asian Games 200m gold medalist, Ruqaya Al Ghasara of Bahrain, who donned the hijab during that major sporting event, and does not even feel even the slightest of being “disadvantaged” or that she is wearing “uncomfortable, impractical clothes”. In fact, the Islamoholic was informed that the hijab she was wearing was sponsored by Nike.
Its amazing how idiotic some people can be when they arrogate themselves to the position of commenting about Islam, particularly the Holy Al Quran Al Kareem. The problem with these Islamophobic individuals is that they do not know first-hand about the position of women in Islam, as it is practiced in the Muslim world since the Prophet Muhammad, salla allahu alayhi wassallam, first preached this Message of pristine Truth
.After all, truth is a concept which Islamophobes like this person, Elaine Lim, have a hard time trying to grasp. I, as a Muslim, am totally offended when we have kaafirs like Elaine Lim telling me that my religion discriminates me. It is totally preposterous.
What is Islamophobia and how does one define Islamophobia? This is the question that may appear in one’s mind. However, Islamophobia may be defined as follows, in not too many words:
Islamophobia is the irrational fear and/or hatred of Islam, Muslims or Islamic culture. Islamophobia can be characterised by the belief that all or most Muslims are religious fanatics, have violent tendencies towards non-Muslims, and reject as directly opposed to Islam such concepts as equality, tolerance, and democracy.
This view is common after the 9/11 tragedy where Muslims have been regarded in myopic terms. It is viewed as a new form of racism whereby Muslims, an ethno-religious group, not a race, are nevertheless constructed as a race. Your writings reflect this tendency to paint Muslims with the brush of racism and intolerance. The irony is that a liberal Muslim, one who has abandoned the Qur’an and the Sunnah for the cultural decadence of Westernisation and secularism is seen as a “moderate”. Who defines these labels, “moderate” or “extemist”, “fanatic” or “progressive”, anyway?
The Islamoholic openly rejects your hatred of true Muslims and vehemently opposes your definition of what defines a “Muslim”.
